Great Mid-Zoom for the Price!
Strengths: -5x Optical zoom -Generally good image quality -Image stabilizaton -Pretty long-lasting rechargeable battery -Lightweight, compact -Good feel-in-hand -Good screen size
Weakness: -Intelligent Auto mode can make mistakes -No real manual controls -Some noise in photos -Not great in low-light conditions -Video maxes out at VGA quality -Can't zoom during video
It doesn't hold a candle to Panny's higher-end DMC-ZS line but if you're looking for a good budget camera with 5x zoom and anti-shake, this is a great option for under $150. This is a secondary camera to my Canon T1i dSLR, but it's nice for the pocketability and clear photos. This camera is very easy to use and the menu UI is fairly straight-forward. THE GOOD: Very good design, features for its price; dedicated Intelligent Auto button; wide-angle 5x zoom lens. THE BAD: Mixed photo quality, performance. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS15 is a well-appointed snapshot camera for the money with the mixed performance and photo quality typical of its class.
