good budget p&s digicam

Strengths: 4x optical, 2.5" lcd, photo quality, takes AA battery, battery life

Weakness: overexposed flash in macro mode

let me start off with the bad in this budget digicam. the flash in macro mode is too strong. I'm not sure why most manufacture have this problem and will not weaken the flash when it's used in macro mode. don't try to use macro mode close up in the dark with flash on. that aside, i love everything about this digcam. large 2.5" lcd, 4x optical zoom, and AA battery for power supply are among my...

A fine performer and a great bargain

Strengths: The face detection system works a little better than the one of its predecessor, and the new model is slightly rounder and easier to grip.

Weakness: Blurry pictures in the night mode, bulkier than the Canon SD models

Overall a great beginner digital point and shoot for less that $150. Canon improved some features like increasing the size of the review screen and made some options a lot easier to use (like turning flash on/off, timer in a better spot, deleting pictures). It takes GREAT pictures and is very lightweight and easy to use.

Great performance at reasonable cost

Strengths: Light compact, very picture-quality feature loaded.

Weakness: No image stabalization, no manual control

This is an excellent choice for the average consumer, looking to capture infrequent shots of frequent subjects e.g. family gatherings, vacation and the like. Very easy controls, easy pc or direct to printer transfer of images. The aspiring photographer however, will not be too happy with the absence of manual control which greatly limit the performance the knowledgeable person can extract from...

Canon A580

Strengths: Very Easy to use.

Weakness: knobs have a flismy feel to them.

Overall this is a great little camera for the price. Main menu is very user-friendly and easy to navigate. "Auto" mode does a great job overall on most pictures and lighting enviroments.

Canon PowerShot A580

Strengths: Easy to use for a beginner. Picture quality is very good. Uses AA batteries.

Weakness: I wish the case were a little more rugged.

I have owned several Canon cameras - all have been good and this one is no exception. I'm glad the A family still has the AA batteries. This allows me to switch while recharging. Also, I can use standard batteries in a pinch. The price is good and the quality remains good, although I think an aluminum case would improve it. I would recommend this camera for beginner and intermediate users.

Great little camera, takes very good pictures

Strengths: Extremely easy to use. Uses standard AA batteries. The movie mode is as good as average camcorders.

Weakness: Doesn't survive an angry wife throwing it to the floor.

I doubt IS would have helped the situation when my angry wife threw it to the floor, cracking it in half. Prior to that, this camera took very good pictures for a P&S. The boys enjoyed making movies with it, and took many decent pictures. It's very easy to use, but IS would have been very helpful.

Very good camera, but search for A580 IS

Strengths: Sharp lens Hackable Easy to hold AA cells available worldwide

Weakness: Not IS

I have the previous model, the A-570, but with IS (image stabilization). Hate to say this, but look for an A-580 with IS also. It means the ability to shoot 2-3 shutter speeds slower (a photo shot at 1/15th will usually look just as sharp as a shutter speed of 1/120, a huge factor in composition). Canon does the best IS in the business. One other wonderful thing about these cameras is that people...

A excellent camera from Canon at a reasonable price

Strengths: high quality/cost ratio excellent image quality easy-to-use interface

Weakness: heavy weight out-of-date design use AA battery

This camera is among the best at this price range. As usual, canon gives really good image quality, both indoor and outdoor. I always use it at auto mode and it never disappoints me. Especially, the color contrast of the image is very good. In addition, the software comes with the camera is user-friendly and fool-proof. There are also some shortcomings. First is the heavy weight. Second is the...

Budget product with good quality

Strengths: 1. inexpensive price 2. small and easy to carry 3. picture quality is satisfactory for everyday use 4. runs on regular batteries

Weakness: 1. No professional features

I bought this camera for my parents as a gift. They are old and cannot undersand complex camera operations. This product is great for them, since it is easy to carry and operate. Picture quality looks decent and running on regular batteries is a plus. Although it does not provide all of the features a serious photographer wants, it is a budget product to meet most persons' needs.

Canon Powershot 580 is a great camera at reasonable...

Strengths: Very easy to use. Using AA battery is a great feature. Very compact and light weight. Screen size is good. Good to have viewfinder.

Weakness: So far nothing noticeable. At this price we can ignore few things, like lack of full manual control. It would be a nice feature, but considering the price not a real weakness.

I have been using this camera for more than a month. This is my first Canon digital camera. I am having Nikon Coolpix 5400 also. Overall I am very satisfied with the camera in terms of picture clarity and easy handling. I am also happy with the refresh time and I think that is better than my Coolpix 5400. I am still in the process of exploring various other features and so far I could able to...

Canon PowerShot A580

THE GOOD: Great pictures for little investment; intuitive operation; advanced face detection for its class. THE BAD: Feels and looks cheap; bulky; slow shot-to-shot performance, especially with flash. THE BOTTOM LINE: Its slow and unglamorous, but the Canon PowerShot A580 captures good pictures at a low price.

Canon PowerShot A580 Review

The Canon PowerShot A580 ranks as one of the less expensive digital cameras on the market. But that was only one target Canon hit with this A-Series digital camera. With 8 megapixels, a 4x optical zoom and a 2.5-inch LCD, the Canon A580 is clearly not a stripped-down digital camera. Canon popped a DIGIC III under the A580's hood to give it enhanced image quality and more than a few cool features....
