Streets & Trips 2006

Strengths: good software, inexpensive, voice recognition

Weakness: requires a laptop, included GPS not so good

This year edtion of the microsoft streets and trips has some cool updates compared to previous years. The voice recognition is much better and the routing is good, but you don't get the best route always. The GPS unit is so so but with the price tag no complain.

Great Buy

Strengths: Very accurate location capability

Weakness: None

Used it on a recently road trip. Absolutely love it. The accuraccy is within 10 meters. It is very useful while driving in the dark when signs are not easily seen. Best of all, you know the exact current location all the time instead looking for signs. You do need to place the receive close to window to receive the signal.

Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 with GPS Locator

Strengths: Ability to pick your own route, approx trip costs, Updated construction information

Weakness: Does not say full name of street when speaking, no automatic route finder, pretty useless points of interest

I was expecting a bit more with this product. As I mentioned earlier in the pro and cons section, when it says directions, it skips a valuable peice of information: the street name. It just says "Turn left 100 feet". Forgive me, I forgot my measuring tape at home, I'd like to know the street in which I'm turning if in unfamiliar territory. For this oversight alone, I'd go with Delorme, or wait...

streets and trips 2006 with gps

Strengths: Rerouting from current position, powerful antenna

Weakness: locations for smaller areas limited

need to have a link to search online for locations. I could noy find many locations until i had to type the actual address. It should also store my trips as data sets and not files to be accessed later. rerouting after you stray is quick. The program told me i was offroute because it did not know it was a 4 lane hignway not 2. The program also has a glitch in that you need to turn off gps...

Microsoft Streets & Trips vs. Street Atlaz

Strengths: Clean look, easy to use, good performance...

Weakness: Quirky stuff...more on that below...

I travel often for work. When I get to the state(s) I'm assigned to, I usually have multiple sites (50±) that I have to visit. Therefore I depend heavily on mapping programs and GPS. My company has been using Street Atlas for years now. So this review is based on a comparison between the two programs. The very first thing I noticed is MS Streets is considerably faster than Street Atlas....

Inexpensive gps solution

Strengths: inexpensive, simple to use interface, voice prompts tell you when to turn, good performance, easy to setup

Weakness: no rerouting feature for gps tracking, need laptop to use (unless you pay for the extra bluetooth gps dock sold from 3rd party)

I've had a great experience using this software. As an avid traveler, this product has helped tremedously. I bring it along whenever go on a road trip because there's nothing worse than getting lost and having to stop for directions. Right out the box the software is easy to install. Just pop in the cd, click setup, and then plug in the gps. I got it working in one try and only took about 10...

No Real-Time Re-Routing

Strengths: Inexpensive (and unfortunately ... cheap) software.

Weakness: If you miss a turn ... bad luck .. stop the car and work a re-route.

I got this to take the place of my NAVAMAN SmartST V2.1 Software (thinking it would be easier to set destinations, and that the maps would be more up to date) ... unfortunately neither was the case. I especially do not like the lack of adaptive auto re-routing. The NAVMAN software lets you go wherever you like and happily re-routes while you are driving. the NAVMAN has a clunky destination finder...

Good idea, however, still limited....explained below...

Strengths: Sound maps - S&T software is good Voice prompts are frequent Very accurate read outs of the voice prompts

Weakness: Initial GPS tracking is slow Setting up Direction Guidence is NOT intuitive Locate me feature (wifi) is way off (>.5 miles) Roads missing 4 out of 10 times, i'm off the road (GPS guiding)

This was my first GPS purchase so I had a lot of high expectations going into it since I used to own an in car model. Setting up the device is extremely simple, basically install the software and you're set. I got hung up on the Locateme feature that comes with the software because I thought that was the GPS feature but instead it uses Wifi or IP to locate you...yea that was way off. I think it...

I like it

Strengths: Easy to set up. Voice navagation.

Weakness: Showing "off route" sometimes even though that's not the case.

I used S&T 2005 before. This 2006 version has the simillar style to 2005. It has voice navagation now, which is a big improvement. I have no problems so far. Only issue is the "off route" notification. But it's not a big deal. The Delorme I used had the same issue, and i still know where I am, even a little bit off route. You got what what you paid for. I'm happy with both at such a low price...
