Digimax A7

Very nice camera! The pictures come out great. Receive a photo printer with it and my family loves it. The screen is very clear. It is easy to use and comes with everything you need.

Most MegaPixels Bang for the Buck!!!

Strengths: 7 MegaPixels, 30fps MPEG-2 movies with sound limited only by size of mem. card, 3X opt. zoom, 2" LCD, built in lens cover, carrying case/strap, rech. batteries and charger included!!! PictBridge.

Weakness: 32MB internal memory is not nearly enough for 7 mp (a card should be incl.). Plastic-light. Battery & MC share same door. Can't charge through camera. Not as thin as others. No dock. NO A/V IN/OUTPUT!

We purchased this camera for my wife who is not electronic savy. However, I have been the one using this camera this past weekend. Target (of all places) had a terrific pre-holiday sale where the cameras were being sold nearly half of their normal price and I have not seen that price anywhere else on the internet or at a retail store since. However, 7 megapixels is a large resolution and pretty much on the high end right now. I was skeptical. However, after trying it out this weekend, I was pleasently suprised...so much so that we purchased several more for holiday gifts. There are tons of features (most people would not even use all) and the controls are well placed. The movie mode with sound is great and in some instances avoid the need for a separate video camera. The downside is that it does not have docking capabilities, batteries have to be removed to be charged (cannot charge through the DC input and DC adapter not included), the memory card and battery share the same door (we will see how it holds up), there is no A/V input/output if you wanted to directly connect the camera to a TV during a visit or trip (as do the Kodaks we had) and probably I will be nit-picky about other things. However, the photographs, while not as crisp color wise as some cameras that cost double or triple the price, is still beautiful and the controls are intuitive. For the money, wow! Despite its drawbacks, for the money, I do not believe there is another camera that comes this close for a point and shoot with advanced features.

Great Camera

Strengths: Picture quality, light weight, LCD size, voice and video recording. Support for multiple power sources.

Weakness: No interchangeable lenses. Have to install Samsung software on your computer. No swivel LCD screen. Audio is not great.

Being that I got this 7MP camera on salefor only $200 , I can not really complain about it too much. Maybe after more extensive testing I can update my review. It will take me a while to try out all of the different functions.

Good product.

The camera is relatively light-weight. 7 mega-pixel is a lot! It's feature loaded and easy to use. It can record VGA resolution MPEG4 movies. However, with a 256MB card, it can only record for 3.5mins; that's a very bad compression.

The LCD is 2.0in, but the optical viewfinder is too small to be useful. The LCD resolution is a bit lacking. I think it's about 100K pixels, not 200K pixels.

Very good buy if you can get it on sale

Strengths: Inexpensive 7MP camera, small, video capture limited by only memory card size, comes with AA batteries and charger

Weakness: Not as small as others in its class, not USB 2.0

I bought the camera on sale for $200, which makes it a very good deal for a 7 MP camera.

There were certain features that I was looking for when I was shopping around for a new camera, and I was happy to find out that the A7 met all my requirements:
- At least 5MP
- Uses AA batteries (easy to find replacement batteries in a pinch)
- Decent picture quality
- Viewfinder
- Takes video whose length is limited only by memory card size
- Fast startup
- Fast recovery between flashes
- Little lag between pressing the button and taking the picture

The A7 is not the smallest, fastest, or has the best picture quality, but it handles everything well.

My major disappointment is that it doesn't support USB 2.0, so it will take a while to download pictures from the camera to the PC. I might have to buy a cheap memory card reader in the future.

An alternative would be the Sony Cybershot DSC-W7. It also satisfied my requirements and I recently saw it on sale for $260.

Samsung Digimax A7 Digital Camera

Strengths: Came with case, batteries, and recharger. Takes great pictures in well lighted areas. Easy to use

Weakness: When using the flash, it takes a little while before you can take another picture.

Overall this camera is a good purchase for the price. It is 7Mp when most cameras in the price range are 5Mp. The battery life is not great but it also only uses two at a time. It is nice and small for portability and you can download pictures as a mass storage device so you don't need to clutter your computer with useless software.
