Easy for beginners to use, enough features for most

Strengths: foolproof image settings, easy-to-use menu system, excellent zoom, image stabilization, mini-USB connector, removable batteries, large LCD display, 10 megapixel resolution

Weakness: a little thicker than some competitors

My wife hates complicated cameras, and I enjoy customizing settings, and we wanted a new camera that could satisfy both our needs - something she can point and shoot easily, but with enough oomph for me to optimize the photo experience.

It's clear why the PowerShot series is so popular - they take good pictures with a minimum of fuss. The unique thing about the 2000 IS is the mode selector dial on the top of the unit - everything from a goof-proof point and click "Easy Mode", to the normal "Auto Mode", Movie Mode, Custom Program Mode, and a variety of specialized Scene modes - Portrait, Landscapes, Indoor, Night. You really can adapt the complexity of this camera to suit any user!

The camera has a powerful 6X optical zoom, and a 24x digital zoom. Battery use is quite frugal - I have not had to change batteries in the 2 months I have owned the unit. It is very easy to sync photos to any computer using the included mini-USB cable.

Superb Buy

Strengths: Great features, Awesome picture quality, very low price for the quality

Weakness: a little heavier than expected but still small enough to fit in my pocket when necessary.

I was looking to upgrade to a higher pixel camera but was on a budget. I love this camera after one week of use. I suggest buying a high capacity memory card because you will want to take lots of pictures.

Canon PowerShot A2000 IS

THE GOOD: Excellent photo quality for the money; 6x zoom; simple operation. THE BAD: Limited controls; slow performance. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Canon PowerShot A2000 IS is lean on features beyond its stabilized 6x zoom lens, but it takes great photos and is easy to use.

Canon PowerShot A2000 IS

The Canon A2000 IS generally does a good job upholding the strong tradition of Canon's A-series cameras. Its 6x zoom lens shows very good optical quality, and its 10-megapixel sensor delivers plenty of detail at low ISOs. It does pretty well at high ISOs as well, as you can make 8x10 inch prints from its output up to about ISO 800, and ISO 1,600 images are usable at 4x6 inches. Important for...

DCRP Review: Canon PowerShot A2000 IS

I like the PowerShot A2000 IS -- it's a good choice in the entry-level, midzoom category, and I can recommend it, as long as you're not a big low light shooter. As I've said throughout this review, the PowerShot A2000 is definitely a step down from the A720 that came before it. I can only hope that Canon gets the message and releases something in the near future with manual controls, conversion...

Camera Labs – Canon PowerShot A2000 review

Canon’s PowerShot A2000 IS is a good value 10 Megapixel compact with a longer than average 6x optical zoom range and very effective image stabilisation. It may be lacking the 28mm wide angle coverage of some models, but it’ll outgun most at the price in the telephoto stakes, zooming into an equivalent of 216mm. This is ideal if you find yourself frustrated with the maximum reach of other...
