great camera for kids!

Strengths: Auto setting and automatic flash! Eazy zoom and picture review. 5x optical is great.

Weakness: should come w/ a neck strap rather than a wrist strap. Not exactly pocket size - (but that is a plus for those with large hands)

With the z700's price point now below $150, this is a tough camera to pass up if you are looking for more than average optical zoom (5X instead of 3X). While multiple modes are available- it can be set to 'automatic' for point and shoot shots. There's no need to pop up the flash - for forgetful rookie photographers that's a plus! Images are crisp and color is great. I've purchased 10+ of these cameras for middle and high school yearbook staffers. SD memory is relatively inexpensive and being able to use rechargeable AA batteries makes things easy. A real workhorse of a camera - with freindly, easy features- all at a great price!

A good basic digital camera!

Strengths: Easy operation. Very fast. Use rechargable batteries. 5X optical zoom. Low price. Support other languages.

Weakness: Low light performance. Flash is too strong.

I am generally satisfied with the performance of this camera. It starts up fast and takes shoot fast. It also take pretty good pictures.
The weakness is when you take night pictures with flash on, the background is very dark and the objects in front are very bright. Manual adjustment could overcome it.
All in all, it is good for the price!

Very happy with Z700

Strengths: Zoom, Flash, SD card support, small size, ease of handling, functions, 80 min video with sound capture

Weakness: Rotary switch does not go 360 degrees, takes a while to save pictures

I purchased this camera to replace my HP photosmart 720. Z700 is much lighter, has more resolution and zoom. The controls and menu are good though I did not like the rotary selector switch a lot. It does not go 360 degrees and so if you are shooting video, you will have to go all the way back to switch it off.

It supports SD cards which are highly inexpensive. It can also capture 80 min video depending on card size. I have not tried it for longer with a bigger card. Flash is very strong and can be a plus when shooting in dark. I used burst mode and it took a long time to save pictures as compared to my past experience with other digital camera's. Nice resolution and good pictures. Already recommended to a friend who is happily using it.

Would recommend to anyone looking for a good starter camera for low price, considering the price of SD card, the overall cost is pretty cheap.

Problems with Z700

Strengths: Easy to hold, nice pictures

Weakness: very poor quality product.

I have owned many cameras, but this one shocked me as it has a manufacturing defect, and will not open or turn on and work properly. The first Z700 failed in the exact same fashion, did not shut down and close up the lens. When you turn it on, it won't extend its lens and again shuts down eventually. I had to return my first one, and purchased a second since it was thought to be a quirk. 1 month later, the second stopped working in the exact same fashion. Prety mad about this since it is xmas eve and wanted to use my new camera.

Big disappointment

Weakness: Very poor performance in low light: everything is bleached by the flash or magenta and blurry w/out the flash. Also can't handle very bright light: overexposes if there's the least amount of glare.

Since the "weaknesses" text box only lets me type 200 characters, I'll continue here:
-Batteries drain really fast
-Camera very slow to save pictures
-No audio re-play of videos on the camera itself
-Camera takes blurry pictures even on bright sunny days when I'm not moving

Overall a huge disappointment. I had a Canon A70 Powershot for about 2 years till it crapped out, & loved it in comparison. Didn't like the next version they put out so I thought this might be a good one to try--WRONG!!

(Of course Canon couldn't just *keep* a perfectly good design--this bullsh*t marketing strategy of flooding the consumer with new versions ever more frequently is ridiculous, and just means that nothing is built to last any more...UGH!!)

Great camera for newbies

Strengths: 4 MP and 5 opt zoom at this price range. Great exterior design makes it very easy to grip.

Weakness: Strong flash makes color bland. Audio in videos is horrible. Somewhat awkward size.

This is my first digital camera and it was a solid investment. Almost perfect for a beginner. Already though I am thinking of getting a better quality cam because even 4MP is starting to look inadequate.

I LOVE IT!!!

Strengths: Easy to use...Great Auto and Manual Exposure Modes...Excellent 5x7" Pics...SD Support...The list goes on.

Weakness: Rotary Mode Selector Sucks...C'mon, Kodak, give us a full 360 degree selector!

I'm very happy with my Z700. Got it at a great price and it has been my "goto" camera when I'm on the run. I've taken pictures in lots of different situations (night, backlighted, action, portraits and landscpes). I even took pix of church events in available lighting (PAS Manual modes are great).

You can't zoom in video mode, but for quick vids the Z700 does quite well. I also like the Kodak Photo software, although it's pretty basic.

A 360 degree mode selector would have been nice.

My next experiment...Printing an 8x10" portrait.

it is a good camera for the price

Strengths: LCD and features; Great zoom; Easy menu; Superb pics

Weakness: battery hatch flimsy; Bulky, video is grainy

This is a excellent camera within this price range. Kodak produces delivers excellent image quality and offers a superb zoom. It is so easy to zoom in and out and it is light weight when compared to cameras in the same range. This camera has a lot of inbuilt features and modes. I recommend users to read and understand the user manual before trying since each mode is for a specific use. Altogether, this camera is an asset.

Great little camera for a great price.

Strengths: Low price, 5X Optical Zoom, Small size and extremely lightweight.

Weakness: Battery hatch seems frail. Very slow zoom speed.

This Kodak four megapixel camera is one of the few *good* cameras I've seen for under $200 that has better than a three times optical zoom(This Kodak Z700 series having a 5X optical). I tried some indoor and outdoor shots, and the print quality at 4X6 was very nice, especially in low lighting situations. The camera is extremely compact given that it has a 5X optical zoom, and is very lightweight. It also runs on AA batteries, and while some consider this a negative, I like that if I run out of batteries at an event or a theme park, I can run to the Mickey store and pick up a pack for ten dollars, and my day is not over. All in all, a great camera for a starting user or someone on a budget who wants more than the standard fare 3X optical that comes on most cameras this price.

Kodak Z700

Strengths: Low price,5X optical zoom,SD card slot and small size.

Weakness: none

It is a very good camera and takes good pictures for under $160. The 5X optical zoom is really good for this price along with 5 megapixels. I don't think that there is a better digital camera for the price even though I got a 512 MB SD card and a 4 battery quick charger for it. The total cost was around $215 for all of it thanks to PriceGrabber for helping me find these good buys.

Very good camera for the price

Strengths: Solid feel Strong flash simple operation usb 2.0 unlimited video quick start up

Weakness: Strong flash Multiple focus zones can confuse camera cache gets a little clogged and can take a while to save to SD card

I have heard enough friends and associates complain about things they can and cannot do with cameras they purchased for $300-$500 dollars. For a camera with an MSRP around $200 and cheaper if/when you find some coupons, this model is great. The camera feels solid in your hands even though it is plastic - no creaking or bending noises as you use it. The flash is strong and will really light things up when dark. The zoom is quite good and can get you in fairly close. The camera has a fairly large number of modes to capture most of the conditions a person can expect to encounter. It has some manual controls (PAS mode) and I find myself using that mode most often. Since it operates via USB 2.0 a docking station or reader isn't really necessary. The camera starts up in just a couple of seconds so no problems with it firing up. I have heard many digital cameras restrict the length of your video. This camera, as far as I can tell, does not. It certainly wont replace a video camera, but it works well enough.
When it comes to zoom im not sure if 5x is really much of a step up from a 3x. Probably better off going for a 10x with stabilizing zoom if you need to get close from far away.
The flash is so strong I often need to darken it using the kodak software. The software is very basic, but works well enough. If I need some more work I look to adobe photo elements. Any time I used the multiple focus zone feature (default I think), I would never get good detail on the main subject. The same was true for the light balance feature. All I did was change the settings to focus and light balance based on the center and the problem was pretty much solved. If you do take a number of photos fast it can take a while to save to your card. About 90% of the time this is no problem at all, but if you want to take big photos fast you might need to go up a step in camera quality and price.
Again, the value of this camera exceeds the purchase price.

Strengths: good features,i got it for a great price with a 256 mb SD, great optical zooming capabilities, easy to use and gr8 night mode

Weakness: little bit heavy compared to other digi's.

apart from its weight it looks to be a good camera. lots of exiciting features and lots of things tht u can do with it.zooming capability is just gr8 and 4mp even makes it better.only thing tht kodak should provide is a rechargeable batteries and a charger. but i would strongly recomend to go and buy it for d price tht it offers.

Great Camera

Strengths: easy to use, lots of features, good for day to day shots, SD card easy to download.

Weakness: battery drains too quickly.

The features and strengh of the camera is great for this price. Get it while you can. I don't plan on buying another camera for another couple years I think Kodak has hit the right buttons for me.

The only complaint I have is the battery drain. I recommend buying a rechargeable batteries and charger. It came with AA but I burned through them the first day. i don't recommend buying regular AA's...

Stay away from Kodak

Strengths: light weight & inexpensive

Weakness: slow to capture image

My z700 needed repaired after 4 months. The lens assembly had to be replaced. My experience with Kodak's customer service was a nightmare. They tell you to send in the camera, batteries and memory card for the repair. They would not return my memory card. After weeks of me emailing them (because they won't talk to you on the phone)a multi-million dollar company lost my business. Stay away from Kodak!

Kodak Z700

Strengths: Light weight, 5X Zoom

Weakness: Flash too strong

This is my second digital camera. I bought it considering the factors like zoom, brand, megapixels. The camera gives good results and I have taken a lot of pictures since I bought it. The zooming is slower than my previous camera but still its tolerable. Picture saving is slow at times too.

The Flash is very strong and is a plus when shooting in low light but at other times might make pictures too bright.

Overall a nice buy. Recommended for beginners or those looking to replace their old, low end, 3MP cameras.

Kodak EasyShare Z700

Kodak’s EasyShare Z700 is a surprisingly big 4-MP camera, shaped like a miniature SLR, with a molded handgrip and a beefy lens protrusion. It has some nice extras, like a diopter adjustment for the optical viewfinder, but the LCD is quite small. Then again, Kodak makes up for that minor deficiency with a huge 5X optical zoom, 16 scene modes, and...

Kodak EasyShare Z700

I've just finished and posted my review of the Kodak EasyShare Z700. This is a companion model to the Kodak Z740 that I reviewed a month or so back, with virtually identical features and controls, but a 4 megapixel CCD vs the 5 megapixels of the Z740, and a 5x zoom lens vs the 740's 10x design. Other aspects are quite similar, but the Z700 has very good shutter response and better than average...
