It Just Works!Strengths: Silent operation; decent enough ports; compact design; lifetime warranty Weakness: Should have nine ports First off, note that the actual product is different than the piture. Netgear has updated the swith, so it is more compact. It basically has just the ethernet ports, and the status lights. The lights are fairly close together, so seeing what is going on (link activity) is kind of hard. I love the fact that it is fanless, as the previous Netgear 24-port that I had sounded like a jet engine, so I had to return it! I only wish this was a nine-port switch, as you do lose one port in order to connect it to another switch or router.

Perfect switchStrengths: Work so well with other branch Weakness: none This 8 ports switch worked so well for me. There was no problem since I bought this product a few months ago. Easy to set up. GS108 SwitchStrengths: Easy to Install, Small Size, Silent, Solid Weakness: None This product is very easy to install. I just took it out of box, plugged in the power cord and attached all the network calbes and then it worked. It also has some convenient features, for example, all 8 ports automatically detect connection speed and uplink/downlink and the indicator lights show which ports are in use and what speeds they run at. Its size is so small that I can easily put it inside my wiring panel. It runs cool and silent in a very small room. No issue with interoperability or anything at all! GS108Strengths: Compact, Number of Ports, Performance Weakness: None This switch is exactly what I want. The size is very compact for a 8-port switch. It is built solid and just like the other Netgear equipment I've used, completely hassle-free. The performance is pretty good. I haven't encountered any network connection problem with it. Netgear 8-Port Switch (GS108)Strengths: Fanless (quiet); fast; easy setup; nice design; wall mountable. Weakness: None found. An easy way to expand my home network. I needed to add another computer and network printer. I almost bought the 5-port version, but decided on the 8-port for a few dollars more. A great decision. This can be placed in any easy to access location and it allows the kids to plug right in when needed. I would recommend this to anyone for an easy way to expand your home network. Expand your network effortlesslyStrengths: Fast. Easy addition to an existing network. Plug and play. No setup. Can be wall mounted. Quiet operation so it can be added anywhere that noise would be a concern. Weakness: None found so far. I have been using this for a couple of weeks now. I added it in to replace a previous 4-port switch. Though I don't use all the ports often except for gaming or other lan party stuff, I really appreciate the additional ports. The unit is quiet and looks good. Now when I have friends over for a LAN party, we all just plug into my new Netgear 8-port switch and we are good to go. It can be used stand-alone for those not wanting to game with internet access, but I don't use it that way. Plus the speed is much faster with my new switch. I have CAT5e cabling and gigabit NIC cards, so getting a gigabit router has really helped in speed. Especially in moving large amounts of data over my network. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Netgear GS108Strengths: Metal construction, small profile, runs cool for gigabit switch, ease of setup Weakness: minor aesthetics The switch does its job. Delivers gigabit speed in a small metal case. The version I received supports jumbo packets, full duplex and auto-uplink. I purchased the GS108 and the GS105 and they both perform well. gs108Strengths: has a very nice small a/c adaptor. the power comes in from the oppisite side of the ports Weakness: gets alil warm but nothin to worry about. i just like the idea of the 10/100/1000 mbps rate. i can connect to my other computers faster w/o any hang ups. you can see what speed your running at by the leds. a very nice switch Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Silent:
The most appealing thing about this gigabit switch is that it is uses no fan to stay cool, unlike other gigabit switches. It’s absolutely silent! I can keep it in my room and not be bothered by it. Even after transferring tens of gigabytes of data through it at a time it manages to stay cool. It also has a strong metal case rather than plastic. It includes screws for optionally mounting it to a wall. And it has rubber feet on the bottom of each corner to keep it cool.
No frills:
It’s a plain, no frills switch. It has no DHCP server built-in, no configuration settings to modify; just 8 ports for connecting computers. You can always connect your router to it to provide Internet access to the computers on this switch.
Performance Testing:
I set up two computers, each with gigabit network cards and CAT5 cables to copy a single large file as well as thousands of small files from one computer to the other. Copying a single 1.31GB file took 1 minute, 31 seconds. Copying 10362 files with 852 folders, totaling 1.46GB took 3 minutes, 4 seconds.
Conclusion:

nowhere close to 1gigabit, you need to enable jumbo frames
