S.A.M.E. Weather Radio easy to enter county code

Strengths: S.A.M.E. only alerts you to nearby weather events 30-hour operation during power failure Meaningful status indicators for WX features (LCD + LEDs) Very flexible in WX alert (single + multiple codes

Weakness: Single 1 wake-up alarm Single speaker for FM

Timely warnings about Avalanches, Earthquakes, Fires, Floods, Hurricanes... Radiation, Tornadoes, and Tsunamis are essential to keeping you safe. Midland's WR-300 weather radio and Alarm clock alerts you to 50 dangers broadcast by the National Weather Service.
Since it's also an alarm clock, you can keep it by your bedside for dangers in the middle of the night. But you'll only be awakened for trouble at your home -- because SAME technology filters out conditions that will pass you by.
Yes, other weather radios let you monitor the weather, so if you kept them on all day long you'd hear the alerts (if you were still paying attention). A step up are "NOAA" radios that automatically turn on when there's a danger in your STATE. But the WR-300 is a S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding) radio that describes the trouble in your COUNTY with a 21-character text description, tells you how long it will last, and prioritizes from immediate Warnings with a red LED light down to possible advisories with a yellow LED.
Takes about 5-minutes and one unique step to program. Call for your 6-digit county NOAA/SAME(FIPS) code at 1-888-NWS-SAME or use the Internet at www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/i... . Enter this as a "single county" and you are good to go. If you put in four AA batteries you never have to program again unless you lose electricity for more than 30-hours. It actually takes longer to program your 3 favorite AM and 3 FM stations than entering the country code.
Weekly test messages make sure you can't go too wrong. In my area they are broadcast at noon on Wednesday. But if you work nights and sleep days you can disable the alarm for low priority Advisory messages (but text and LED still display).
Read on other reviews that backlight is too bright, button press tone too loud, and manual "poorly translated from Chinese". The backlight can be constant on or only when you touch a key. Loudness was OK. And manual is very good (especially compared to previous Midland products I've owned).
Great product and service. Thank you Midland and NOAA.
Tested version #5 Firmware (displays when first turned on).

Keep Informed--Save Your Life!!

Strengths: Customizable weather alerts for your immediate area--saves you from "false" alerts that don't apply. Easy to setup. Battery backup for power failures.

Weakness: Batteries only last about 30hrs. Unit does NOT recharge rechargeable batteries.

Great for informing you of impending disasters, nasty weather conditions, on-land or off-shore weather. Bought for hurricane and tornado warnings, as killer tornadoes passed within 25 miles of us a few weeks ago.
Low-cost "insurance" against getting caught unawares. Nice little unit!

midland wr300

Strengths: The radio will do very well for a weather radio. Not too hard to program.

Weakness: Do not buy for music the sound is bad.The clock is hard to read but keeps good time.

Good radio for weather BUY it. Do not buy it for music or a clock if it is placed too far from you the numbers are too small to read from about 10 feet.

Deluxe S.A.M.E. WeatherAlert Radio with AM/FM

Strengths: Has great features and new alerts that my previous radio did not have

Weakness: Some what complicated set up. Had to go through it twice, but it wasn't impossible.

We replaced our old SAME radio because the volume began to fade. We purchased our first radio after a 2 am tornado killed several people here in Florida. Having the piece of mind that we will most likely be alerted to emergencies when they occur is very reassuring. The unit is set for our county and we do not feel that we get an excessive number of alerts that it would be annoying.
I wouldn't be without one of these radios.
I have no plans on using the AM/FM radio unless there is an extended power failure, so the quality of the sound is unimportant to me.

Safety and Peace of Mind for your Family and loved...

Strengths: The S.A.M.E. WeatherAlert All-Hazard radio has many programmable features, but offers the flexibility to program it to only receive Alerts in your specific local areas. I don’t mind being sleep depriv

Weakness: The instruction manual was hard to follow at times, but once your radio is programmed to receive alerts for your local areas (and I’d also recommend including nearby neighboring counties as well), you

The S.A.M.E. WeatherAlert All-Hazard Radio provides peace of mind notifying me of adverse weather conditions in my local area, and alerts me in the event of unexpected severe weather conditions that could threaten the safety of my family in the middle of the night when otherwise we would be sleeping and unaware. As the old adage states, “Forewarned is Forearmed”, and this little jewel of a radio definitely offers two priceless features: the notification to prepare for unexpected weather events, and the opportunity to act quickly to protect loved ones when our safety is threatened (as it has been with us when you live in Florida with hurricanes and tornados)! I would definitely recommend and endorse this product as an affordable, must-have to stay current on life-threatening weather conditions. Remember, severe weather conditions often come to visit like thieves in the night, and aren’t polite enough to threaten us only during waking hours when we would otherwise be likely to stumble across local warnings on our TVs, radios or internet. This is an affordable way to give peace of mind to your family at all times, and ensure that they will be alerted when the weather becomes frightful. I will definitely consider giving these radios as very practical gifts to those I care about, and I recommend you do the same. After all, our best chance for safety is knowledge, and what better way can you show you care than through a gift that could save lives. And, at the very least, this little radio offers peace of mind to those you love so that they will be forewarned if and when their local weather threatens their safety no matter where they live!

Midland WR 300 Weather Radio

Strengths: Many programable features Easy to read and follow Instruction Manual

Weakness: Instruction Manual not 100% accurate

This model has the most features in a weather radio of any that I found in my Internet search. I like the fact that you can choose what type of Alert to receive (voice or tone), the alert's volumn (high or low) and choose to exclude certain warnings. It has S.A.M.E. so that you can receive only the warnings for your specific area and not get awakened for something 50 miles away. It was easy to program as long as you read the Instruction Manual and follow directions. I found a set of instructions that were incorrect but because you use pretty much the same procedure to program all the features it wasn't hard to correct. I have only used it for 3 days but I am very pleased and I am seriously considering purchasing more of them for gifts.

NO MORE WORRIES!!

Strengths: Works everytime!

Weakness: I have no complaints.

I used to start worrying as soon as I heard bad weather was coming even if it was days before. I would sit up glued to the t.v. scared to death wondering when it was our turn for disaster. I finally purchased this weather radio and when I first got it I would still sit and worry not knowing if this thing actually worked right and if it would work everytime. I have to say this radio has NEVER failed me. I have had mine over a year and now I can actually get some sleep. It was easy to program and I have no issues with it. Actually I am going to purchase 3 more for gifts! You can't give a better gift than something that can save lives!

Midland WR-300 Weather Radio

Strengths: A multi-tasking media device

Weakness: None

This radio has it all! AM-FM/Clock Alarm is ancillary to what we here in Florida really need...and that's ALERT! We are far enough south to dodge the snow and ice thing...but then there's the hurricane/tornado issue! Thank you, Midland!!

Midland Deluxe S.A.M.E. Weather Alert Radio WR300

Strengths: Easy to program once you go online to the website to get the county codes. Multi-functional unit is a plus.

Weakness: None I've discovered so far. Only received the unit yesterday.

I had an older version of Midland's weather radio, and this by comparision is great. I would recommend this product to my family and friends. Midland weather radio's are suggested by our EOC manager as being good, reliable products

Best Weather Radio I've Seen! Give one to someone...

Strengths: S.A.M.E. Compliance, Alert Filtering By Preference, Backlit LCD, External Antenna Jack, External Alert Sensor Jack, External Audio Jack, 30 Hour Life w/ Batteries

Weakness: Keypress Beep Is Loud If Not On Silent, No Rechargeable Battery

This is an excellent weather radio/alert system. It's quite self contained and the best one I can find online. The backlit LCD is very large and displays text for the type of alert that you're experiencing, which I found to be novel. The biggest advantage is the selection of alerts that I wish to be disturbed by. I can filter down to the county I want and also not be disturbed by thunderstorm watches and warnings in the middle of the night if I don't want. [product version 4]

WeatherAlert Radio

Strengths: Has all the capabilities I was looking for plus. Directions straight forward and was easy to setup.

Weakness: Some of the display fonts are somewhat small for an old man to read but not a big deal.

This is my second Midland weather radio product. The first one last approx. eight years and did a great job. Based on experience with the first Midland, I selected this product. My limited initial experience, I would recommend this product to all that are looking for a solid weather radio. Bought via Buy.com, delivered on time with no issues - great job!

Deluxe SAME Weather Alert All Hazard Radio

Strengths: excellent choice; gives specific county information for your area. The best radio for weather related issues

Weakness: none

I would buy this product again, for safety in your home due to weather conditions outside, this radio specifically gives information for your area alone and not weather related issues that don't concern you at the time.

Midland Weather Radio WR300--Negative

Strengths: None

Weakness: It doesn't work!!

I'm on my fourth (4th) Midland weather radio since May of this year and haven't had one work correctly yet. Midland just sent one out that THEY programmed (I must be too dumb to do it correctly???!!) and we are under a tornado watch and it has failed to react. I want my money back!

Not a bad little Radio

Strengths: S.A.M.E. codes rock

Weakness: Setting up can be a little cumbersome (finding SAME codes for small town in AL)

Good little radio. Got 2 for my office to know when to take cover. Like the fact that it keeps the advisory, watch, and warning lights lit until it expires. Might want to consider ext antenna if inside a large building with lots of electronics.
