Sleek, Sophisticated, Yet User Friendly

Strengths: Could not be any sleeker, smaller, thinner; extremely lightweight; lithium battery over AAs; excellent battery life; huge, crisp, clear LCD; shutter speed; start-up time

Weakness: No viewfinder; hard to get a good 'grip' because of its teeny tiny size; vague, unhelpful user's manual; small buttons

I'm a novice photo taker, so I can't go on and on about this camera's picture quality versus Canons, Sonys, etc. I've only ever owned one other digi-cam and suffice it to say this is a drastic improvement. I can say, however, that for the average person looking for a mid-priced ultra-compact camera, this is a great choice. So far I've taken some extremely up-close shots of various things and they've turned out better than I could've imagined. Portrait shots have impressed me the most, as I use the "soft flash" function and skintone comes out gorgeously. The camera is small, so obviously the buttons have to accommodate this. I don't have a problem navigating around though since I have thin fingers. The 'weaknesses' I mentioned aren't a problem for me because the other features overcompensate.

If you're considering any other Casio Exilim models or are still unsure of which brand to go with, check reviews for the Casio EX-Z600. It's the Big Poppa of this camera in that it's slightly smaller, has slightly bigger LCD (which has a special feature which adjusts itself in direct sunlight), slightly longer battery life; it's only about $20-40 more. Worth looking into. It also uses a different battery system that you may nor may not like.

Oh, and I would strongly recommend NOT using the user manual this comes with and go online to Casio's website and download the manual from there. It's much more detailed and informative.

The tip about contacting Casio's website for the better users manual was great. I actually called them and they are going to send me all 256 pages of the detailed manual. I guess it is on the cd-rom they inclose in the box but this is way better than using all that ink and paper myself! Thanks for the adive.

Nice Camera for the Price

Strengths: Small size, Large LCD Screen, Good Quality Photos

Weakness: Button Placement, Baterry Charger Design, Limited Internal Memory

I recently bought this camera for a shade under $200. I am extremely happy with it for the most part, and think that the photo quality is excellent. I love the small size, and the huge LCD screen (2.5"). The three weaknesses I have found are:

1. Button Placement -- You will definitely want a case to keep this camera in because if you put it in your pocket, you will accidentally press the button to extend the optical zoom which could damage the camera depending on how tight your pants are.

2. Battery Charger Design -- To charge the battery using AC power, you first have to remove it from the camera and plug it into the included charger, then connect a power cord to the charger. A better option would be a charger with a folding connector (like the Nintendo DS Lite has) or even including a dock so that the battery could charge without removing it from the camera.

3. Limited Internal Memory -- 8.3MB will only hold a handful of pictures at any decent setting. I spent about $25 (after rebates) to add a 512MB SD card.

I still think this is a very good camera and am quite pleased with Casio after lackluster performances from both Kodak and Fuji digital cameras.

One of the best

Strengths: Shape, size, weight, menus, video quality, price, response time.

Weakness: Some of the controls.

I have been using this camera for a while now and I have to say that I'm really happy with it overall. The size of the machine is ideal, as is its weight.

One of the big strenghts of the machine is its menu. It lets you personalize almost every control. You can assign interesting sounds to actions. It also has about 30 preset modes in order to get the best out of the environment. You can also assign different tasks to some buttons.

The bad thing about the personalization is that it doesn't always let you use the machines full potential. If you choose to timestamp your pictures for example, it automatically turns off the digital zoom for some reason. I also had problems at the auto mode after I highly personalized the options. It wasn't using the flash automatically as it was supposed to. But you can always return to where you were at the beginning by reseting the settings.

Another good side of this machine is the video mode. The quality is better than some digital cam-corders that I saw work in day time. Of course you have to choose the best quality video for that and the size it occupies in the memory is going to be huge. I can record about 13 minutes and 25 seconds with a 1GB card.

The response time of the camera is also very good. You can turn the machine on and off from the button at the of the camera too. I personally use that button all the time since the one on the top is a little small for my fingers.

The only thing I think this camera is missing (at standart configuration is a desktop charger so you don't have to take the battery out of it everytime you charge. Other than that it's almost perfect. That's why I got one for me and as a gift.

Great Camera!

Strengths: Small profile, good picture quality, some compensation to moving object photography

Weakness: No manual control

This camera is great. I've had it for a while and now buying another one as a gift. It's great if you're taking pictures on the go. I just whip it out of my pocket and shoot. The boot up time is very quick.

johnd from CA

Strengths: Large LCD, Size, and light weight. Great carry anywhere camera.

Weakness: No optical viewfinder, no manual controls, as stated in other reviews, get a case, turns on by accident if in a pocket. Get a big enough case so that if it accidentally comes on it can open un-impeded

One unstated feature is that the camera will set ISO800 in the sensitive mode. Images sometimes a bit soft from focus locking on something in background. If you learn what all the modes do, you can pretty much get the camera set like you want, even though no manual controls. There are something like 33 modes.

it is really a fine camera

Strengths: its size and shape and wide lcd screen are really good and useful for one looking for a decent camera. it is easy to use and store the pics.

Weakness: its battery life is not as good as it is supposed to be.

I liked that small camera. it is what i need so far. i hope it has a good battery life. i will try to get another battery as a spare one.
i recommend to use that camera to all who looks for a normal camera but efficient one.

Compact Camera, Great Price, Nice Features, and more.

Strengths: Compact size, great design, not cluttered with alot of buttons, a lot of manual controls.

Weakness: Buttons could be a bitter bigger. Menus could be easier to navigate. Instruction manual needs a lot more detail.

This camera is so sleek, small and stylish. It has allot of manual controls to select from. But if you don't like to set everything up individually, there is a 'Best Shot' function where you can just select what type of picture you are taking. Say for example a party or a pet or a scenic. That makes it simplified. The video recording could use a bit of improvement but you can fill up whatever sized memory you have with video, there is not limit. The price is also fantastic. It is a great camera in my opinion.

Love/hate with this camera

Strengths: 1)Tiny, pocketable size 2)Solid metal body 3)Tons of image settings including a unique setting that resizes photos for Ebay sales or to be used on Ebay 4)Excellent battery life

Weakness: Terrible LCD screen, Terrible resolution on LCD screen - images appear grainy/lots of pixelation/over-saturation of colors - extremely annoying and throws you "off".

weaknesses go on:Images produced and printed are "soft" in all settings, lack detail
Pictures indoors are terrible with/without flash. They tend to be grainy, overly saturated inaccurate colors (especially reds). This camera's images fall apart in anything other than bright light/sun.

I wanted to really like this camera but the soft images, poor pics indoors and terrible LCD made me can't

Lightweight camera with nice features, clean...

Strengths: Very light-weight camera, lots of shooting modes, SD Card support, Casio Dock compatible.

Weakness: Switching shooting modes takes time. Dock is not supplied, and is not available online for purchase.

I have owned Canon and Sony cameras for some time. I decided go give Casio a try after reading reviews about its light-weight feature-loaded properties. I could not get the camera in most local B&M stores, as they were cleared for bigger mega-pixel cameras from Casio. I found one online, and have not regretted the decision to buy it.

I was really surprised by the weight of the camera. The interface is clean and the camera slips into the shirt pocket with ease. At times, I have forgotten that I had a camera in my pocket. While the camera is extremely light-weight, the features offered are excellent.

The default modes are set to Normal picture and sound quality. I shot photos and videos in the default Best Shot mode and the Video mode. The quality was very good. After switching to Best picture quality and HQ sound, I could note differences between the previous settings, and the current ones.

One drawback of the simplistic interface is the number of steps required to switch shooting modes. While other cameras offer a rotary or push-button interface to switch modes, the user has to go thru the menu system in this camera for everything. It took some time for me to get used to this interface.

Overall, this camera is great for the price I paid for it. The screen (only 2.5" diagonal) looks as big as 3.0" due to the way the camera is shaped. Casio has hit upon a winning combination with this camera.

Exlim - First look

Strengths: Solid build Compact, reasonably fast, great price for a lot of camera.

Weakness: No optical view finder, buttons/control could be bigger and better No memory card included. Optical zoom seems a bit sluggish. Slight barrel effect.

It has a good feel to it, everything seems to be build to last.
Has everything that you'd expect from a compact camera.

If you try to take pictures like a professional, move on, all is automatic.
If you are looking for a great point and shoot camera, that takes good pictures, fits in your breast pocket and does not have the "cheap plastic" feel to it, look no further.

Casio EX-Z60

Strengths: Compact, good price, large LCD, user-friendly

Weakness: picture quality is not the best

This camera is very compact and easy to carry. It has 2.5" LCD, good for your eyes. The capture modes are plenty and very user friendly. The price is good too. I guess you will not be able to find a similar product cheaper than it. The picture quality is good enough for everyday use but not for picky eyes.

Small camera, Good for on the go outdoor pictures

Strengths: Takes good pictures outdoors, the smallest camera I've ever seen, lots of picture modes (black and white, retro, portrait, etc.), large screen

Weakness: I take a lot of night pictures, some indoors, some outdoors, and this camera does not do a very good job at all. night movies are grainy and distorted no matter what video/picture setting its on.

I actually broke this camera twice. It's really not that durable. Just from being in my pocket a few times, the navigation keys on the back of the camera shifted and stuck in place. It would take pressing the opposite button to stop the camera from scrolling continuously. The front lense is also very cheap and cracked from one drop to the ground. I'm on my way to get the Canon SD1000. It's buttons are flush with the camera, which I like. User reviews on that camera are great and it's almost as small as the Casio which was a selling factor for me.

Slim digital camera

Strengths: great quality for pictures

Weakness: none

It is good digital camera because it takes good pictures. They are clear, sharp... it uses SD memory. LCD screen is big. If you are looking for a primary digital camera... it is yours. I do not have complains of the any type.

More than what you bargained for

Strengths: light, slim, (cool), great picture and video quality for category

Weakness: slim cool and don;t let it slip from your hands!

Great compact camera! From any point of view.
The lens does a good job and keep distortion within acceptable limits. The sensitivity to light is a strong point of this camera as well as the bright big display. Navigation in the menu is simple and it takes great pictures! And videos! It's also very slim and fits in your pocket a lot better than the comparable Canon S500-700 series. By the Way, Canon must be furious at Casio...

Casio Exilim EX-Z60

In general, the speed is great and it is typical of Casio that they have succeeded in this. The Casio Exilim Z60 is a handy compact camera with a lot of automatic functionality. It’s not perfect, but its good image quality will be more than enough to satisfy the owners of this camera!
