Great SteamVac

Strengths: Solid constrction, useful attachmants

Weakness: Needs time to dry before storage

I have used my unit 6 times in the last 3 months, and it has worked well each time. The unit has a cleaning water tank that dipsenses cleaning solution onto the carpet, and a dirty water recovery tank that holds the vacuumed water for disposal. While this unit does not heat the water, if you boil a pot of water and add it to your cleaning tank, you can effectively increase the heat of your cleaning solution and speed the drying of your carpet from the increased evapotration during drying. The unit does blow hot air over the carpet as you vac up the water to aide the drying process. I have used it on my carpets just for general cleaning, and it worked well and left my carpets dry in about 4 hours (by following the manuals directions for cleaning). The only drwback is that it is impossible to get all of the water out of the dispensing lines following use. A little water is left on the brushes and in the line following use. Thus, you should allow the unit to dry on a solid surface(that won't be marred by water) before storage so as to prevent mold growth.

good solid machine

Strengths: strong vacuming power

Weakness: frequent stopping to empty or fill tanks

pretty decent machine for the money. if you can't decide between the bissel proheat or this one, trust me, buy this one. I've had them both and the bissel was a waste of time. i had the bissel for 5 years before i replaced it and in that time i replaced the hose, pump, and broke various parts on it during routine use. also, no mater what i did i could not get it to spray much water on the carpet anyways. not a very robust machine. it never truely had the power to pull all the water out of the rug during a cleaning. the hoover on the other hand, i have had for just under a year and in that time has very much impressed me. it does not preheat the water like the bissel, but hot tap water is more than enough. it has great sucking power to remove the water from the carpet and the spinning brushes do a good job. this thing realy puts out a stream of water to get the job done as well.
so far i have not had to open it up to fix anything, so i can't comment on the internal contruction. i loaned it to my mother in law the other day and it came back still kicking, so what does that say to you!!

Excellent product

Strengths: Great cleaning. Easy to use and clean the machine. Heated cleaning.

Weakness: The only weakness maybe manually hooking up the hose.

Received this product today and it did take me long to assemble. Very clear instructions. I didn't believe my carpet was that dirty but the Hoover machine pull up so much dirt. I like this product because it so easy to fill and empty the tanks. Also the brush are easy to take out and clean. I would recommend this product to everyone that is shopping for superior cleaner. Just order another F5914 for my Mom.

Life saver!

Strengths: easy to use - easier to move across the carpet than my reg. vac. Does a nice job for the price and I can use it any time unlike a rental.

Weakness: It does seem like it may break easily, seems flimsy, set up directions not great, a bit confusing

I needed to buy or rent something fast because my 8 year old puked all over his bedroom carpet - Gross I know! I decided it was time to have my own, with 4 kids, a new puppy and dog and cat we could use it frequently. I did quick research, bought it and set it up within 4 hours. It did a fine job on the gross carpet!!! My other son was thrilled since they share a room! I have done the living room and dining room since and although it does not get as much dirt as a rental, it is much easier to use, makes the carpets smell better and look fluffier. I can do an area right when the last kid leaves for school and the carpet is dry before the first one comes home. Not sure where I will store it, but I will leave it handy and use it often!

SteamVac F5914-900 Steam Cleaner(upright)

Strengths: Easy to assemble and easy to use. Powerful suction and brushes.

Weakness: None

I have three children, 4, 2, and 1 and carpet in my dining area. I needed a steam cleaner! I researched as best as I could on the internet before I purchased this steam cleaner. I was very please with how easy it was to assemble and use. It has powerful brushes and suction and did a great job on my carpets. They looked brand new but are 9 years old. It even pullud up the heavy traffic areas on the carpet to look as though no one had ever walked on them. It is so easy to use that I no longer get upset when I see a mess on the carpet. I know I have a cleaner that will make it vanish as if it never happened. No more scrubbing on my hands and knees then sopping up the carpet with towels then being left with one very clean spot. I can clean the entire room with very little effort and time. I couldn't be more pleased. The price was very fair for this type of equipment too.

Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac Upright Steam Cleaner

Strengths: Strong reliable motor, good sealing hoses, easy to use.

Weakness: A little difficult keeping the rotating brushes clear enough to spin, a real pain to change to the "HOSE" mode.

Considering I have wall to wall carpeting my unit has survived house breaking 6 puppies (or the lack thereof) and is still running well. My unit gets used often and isn't as good as a commercial unit is it sure has been worth every penny I paid for it. I am purchasing a new one just because I want to have a back up unit.

Awesome

Strengths: Easy to set up, easy to use, worked great!

Weakness: None.

We have been renting a house for about a year now with very nice white carpet. Yes, white carpet. Even though we don't wear our shoes in the house, we have a dog and a cat and the carpet was starting to look a little dingy. We hired a pro to come and clean our carpet for about $150 and he did a less-than fair job. If I had been home at the time, I would have made him re-do it. I JUST used the Hoover SteamVac for the first time, with just very hot water, no detergent, and the carpet looks great. You should have seen the water with all of the stuff that the pro left behind. I read the other reviews before buying, and I agree with them.... buy this SteamVac. You will not be disappointed. Also, it took me longer to drive to Best Buy (20 mins away and back) than it took to put together and read the instructions. Have fun......

A good throw-away machine.

Strengths: Does good job of cleaning when it is working properly.

Weakness: Cheap plastic construction that breaks easily and seals fail quickly.

We have had two Hoover upright carpet cleaners and both have done a good job of cleaning the carpet. The first we had for several years until it began to fail and not do the job. However we picked up the new model shown here and have been very disappointed with the quality of the machine. In less than 18 months, with only three uses, the recovery tank seal failed allowing the vacuum power to escape. Even worse, the main motor housing seal failed as did the seal on the upholstery wand pump. I took the decorative plastic housing off and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I had been trying to clean my car upholstery but instead had to watch as all of the cleaning mix ran down my driveway. It does a GREAT job of cleaning, but the workmanship has deteriorated to the point that this machine is now in the disposable class. Too bad.

Great vac at a great price!

Strengths: inexpensive. easy to use

Weakness: a bit heavy

I'm very pleased with the Hoover F5914-900 Steam Vac. This is my first home steam cleaner. It is very easy to use. I used it to clean up pet stains and the smell and stains are long gone. The suction and scrubbing are great features.

Steam Vac F5914-900

Strengths: It removed old and new stains.

Weakness: none

The Hoover Steam Vac F5914-900 Steam Cleaner worked great. I am 100% satisfied with this product and would order it again. I was able to remove old stains from the carpeting in the home I recently purchased and some stains which happened since I moved there.

The cleaner does an OK job. If you don't plan on investing a lot of money on replacement parts, this is not the machine for you. I purchased the machine for around $250.00 and already spend an additional $100.00 on replacement parts, because the seals do not work properly and it just broke again. I use it about 3-4 times a year. It is not worth the money. I will look for a better made product elsewhere. No more Hoover junk for me.

Great Unit, Great Power, Great Price, Great Buy!!!!

Strengths: Price, Ease of Use, Power...

Weakness: Made out of plastic which does have some flex.

I have only had this unit for 3 days, but have cleaned the entire house. Man my carpet was dirty, but the Hoover did a great job and left my carpets dry in 2-3 hours. Make sure you use really HOT water, I put have boiling water. Also fill the fresh water tank 3/4 full of water then add the cleaner and top off. If not it will foam up on you...

follow up review after owning 3 years

Strengths: still works well

Weakness: power diminishing slightly

this is a follow up from a review i wrote back in feb 07.
i still have the machine and it still works quite well.
still have not had to replace anything, or open it up.
the brushes are stating to wear out, but thats ok. they are a magnet for pet hair and the like and get comed clean from time to time. one thing i have noticed, the speed of rotaion of the brushes has slowed down over time. this may be a reason for me to open it, but not yet.
as far as im concerned this is probably the best of the bunch for the money. stick the bissel in the trash and get one of these. they work better for longer and last longer too.

I LOVE MY HOOVER!!

Strengths: Ease of filling or draining tanks; Cleans carpet beautifully; Brush assembly snaps off easily for cleaning.

Weakness: Front plastic too thin and is cracking off.

I started with the 1st Hoover model many years ago. This is my 2nd one as my daughter borrowed and never returned the first. Guess she likes it as much as I do and she got hers really cheap! I have 3 dogs so I clean my carpet at least every 2 months. Does a great job on my kitchen floor too. The step attachment is easy to use also. Naturally, when my son borrows this unit, I'll go out and purchase the newest Hoover carpet cleaner as I probably won't be able to get the 2nd one back.

Good wet-vac

Strengths: Cleans well, easy to use

Weakness: I would like it if the tanks were bigger but that would make it even heavier! Bit of a pain to lug around if you've got stairs.

We'd been looking for a wet-vac for a while as a normal one just doesn't cut it all the time, especially if you've had a few pet "accidents". We got this from Amazon for under $80 after coupons - a complete bargain considering! We don't use it all the time, just whenever there are a few stains or muddy footprints to clean up. I'm amazed how dirty the spent water is once you suck it up - it sure makes you feel like it's doing it's job.
Like other reviewers have mentioned, the hotter the water the better cleaning job it'll do. Add in some boiling water if necessary, and for those really tough stains make sure to pretreat them first.
Yes it is heavy and can be awkward to maneuver around but remember this isn't your regular vacuum that you'll be using all the time.

Excellent Product

Strengths: Ease of use, inexpensive but effective

Weakness: Upholstery wand is not nearly as effective as the carpet mode. For whatever reason the vacuum/suction on the hand tool not very strong - leaves upholstery and stair steps damp

If you are primarily utilizing this unit for carpet care, I would highly recommend. I rented commercial grade steam vacuum units in the past that were stronger at cleaning. HOWEVER, when you consider cost of renting versus purchasing, I would rate this unit ahead of commercial cleaning units you would rent. One important consideration is once you purchase this unit, you won't let your carpet get as dirty so it doesn't have to be as effective overall. This is a really solid cleaner, it does a very good job on carpets. Ease of use is pretty impressive. I have had several friends comment on how nice our carpet looks after I have used the cleaner. I wish I had purchased one sooner!!

Good Vaccuum

Strengths: Powerful cleaning and easy to use

Weakness: Not as good us professional vaccuum

I have this vaccuum for few months now and I really like it. I have a infant and it helps to remove those dirty stains from the carpet. I would recommend this vaccuum to maintain carpet in good condition.

But this cannot replace professional steam cleaning.

good for carpet cleaning

Strengths: rotating brushes that scrub

Weakness: wand/hand tool is weak.

I have used mine for over 2 years now. The hand hose wore out quickly, but never did much of a job since it only sprayed or vacuumed.
The strength of the unit is in the rotating brush heads. I am on my second set since they do wear down. As the other reviewers said--use HOT water and pre-treat. If you go slow and let the machine scrub it will do a good job.

Definately not happy

Strengths: Cleans pretty well but you have to handle it just so or it breaks the suction hose when the handle is lowered to the floor.

Weakness: Really poor design. It either needs an interlock to prevent the suction hose from breaking when the handle is lowered to the floor or the hose system needs to be given more slack so it doesn't break.

I've replaced the suction hose 3 times now. I'm looking for a different brand this time, something that will last longer with a better design. I'll give the Hoover to someone I don't like.

Waste of Mondy

Strengths: Good cleaning while it lasts

Weakness: Motor

We owned this unit for a little over a year, and used it on average once a month, both for carpets and auto upholstery.

The motor burned up yesterday, after a little over one year of light use.

Don't waste your money.

I have to agree with you!! Mine started leaking after only about 6 uses. Cost me 75.00 to have it fixed which didn't last long then the motor burnt up on it. VERY disappointed in this product!

Not Happy

Strengths: Easy to use when it works

Weakness: Cannot find one that works

I bought one before Thanksgiving. Would not spray solution or suction. Took it back, got another one. This one would spray solution, but would not spray in rinse mode. Followed all troubleshooting instructions. No help. So I emptied the solution out, put clean water in solution container and rinsed that way. Pain in the ***, but it worked. Tried it again, couple of days later just to see if I was nuts. Nope, I was not nuts. It still would not work properly. I will be throwing this one away and looking for another brand!!!

Grrrreeat!

Strengths: Very good suction

Weakness: None so far

Product came packaged well and was very easy to put together. All you need is a phillips screwdriver and about 15 minutes. Instructions were very clear and if you are really stuck, you can call hoover for help.

Anyhow, I was very impressed. We bought our home and it had 4 month old carpet that the previous owner's children stained in various places. The cleaner worked well. Just remember you should always pre-treat any stains because this machine and any other machines (that I know of!) will not magically clean then out. Even pros do this.

Great machine for a great price. I would like to buy one for my parents too.

Would give it a 5 star but I have only used it for 3 days and don't know how long it is built to last.

Hoover Steamvac

Strengths: Extracts a reasonable amount of water. Easy to fill clean water chamber. Easy to empty extractor chamber.

Weakness: If more water would be extracted that would be great.

Use this product on aggregate flooring, I feel it works really well. It has worked well for frequent use. Also easy to use on carpets. I use hot water on the aggregate.

Hoover sucks but does not clean

Strengths: Good suction

Weakness: Does not get stains out.

I am not happy with my Hoover Steam Vac. This machine might look like it has everything to clean your carpet, but it does not. It is great at sucking, but it does not clean the carpet surface. So I have to say Hoover sucks but does not clean.

Cleans great!

Strengths: Easy to use

Weakness: Heavy when full of water

I love the hoover steamvac! I had one before and wore it out! This is my second one and knew it would do a great job and had NO problems with my first steamvac. I am in my early sixties and find that it is a little heavy when the water tank is full. I also love the upholstery feature to help me keep my furniture clean from my pets. You won't be disappointed it cleans great! I have used it several times in the past month on carpets and furniture. LOVE HOOVER PRODUCTS!

This is the one you want!

Strengths: Very easy assembly, very easy to use, Great cleaning power!

Weakness: None so far....about 20 uses and no complaints. However, I understand the complaints about broken plastic parts. Just handling gingerly works.

First uses resulted in LOADS of filthy water, so I knew it was doing something, but not until I had SEARS come out to do the carpets (due to a pet accident) did I realize all that it did. The very next day, the dogs got in from the yard before I could wipe their feet, so lovely paw tracks. Brought out the Hoover and decided to do more than that one area. The resulting receptacle water was filthy, even beyond the area where the paw tracks were. Sears' $100+ job did not deep clean as well as this machine. Who would have thought? I highly recommend this machine!

Soooo much better than Bissell!

Strengths: Seperate tanks, reasonable price, cleans and extracts wonderfully!

Weakness: Tanks could be bigger but still better than Bissell!

I owned a Bissell pro heat with all the bells and whistles for about 2 years.
I have 2 cats and a poorly house broken dog so I steam my carpet every 2/3 weeks.
The Bissell was ok, it scrubbed and wet the carpet with really hot water great but it never extracted very well, and the extraction is what gets the dirt out. The Bissell would just sort of push the dirt down to the bottom and wash the upper part so it would look good for a day. Eventualy the carpet started to smell like mildew when it was dry. Then one day it broke, just stopped putting out water. The pump broke, and for $180 I could replace it, uh no thanks! Instead I bought this Hoover and WOW! Not only does this basic model clean better than my hi priced Bissell it sucks back up nearly all the water barely leaving the carpet damp! And wow was that water Black! I went over it several times with cleaner then just water and I must have had 10gal of black water! The tanks are a little small (still bigger than bissells stupid badder design) so I was having to empty it often but it's so easy it's not a big deal. Really really good cleaner. I will never buy a Bissell again, even the repair guy said Bissells break all the time, Hoovers are ment to last!

Thank you for web site and reviews

Strengths: ease of use/not too pricey

Weakness: none noticed

Not too pricey, easy to assemble, use; MUCH quicker than waiting for carpet cleaning "professionals" after torrential rains/flooding :)Smells very fresh in area after use.
Wish I'd had my epiphany sooner.
