Good humidifier

Strengths: Good, low price

Weakness: not easy to refill

I bought this Holmes humidifier to use in my baby's living room and it works pretty well. The humidity level is increased obviousy in a short time and my baby sleeps better than before. The built-in display of humidity is a great plus. I like this product.

Nice Humidifier for my Son's Room

Strengths: Nice looking design, large water tank, seems to humidify well, bright humidity indicator on the front

Weakness: Tank is a bit odd for filling (but it only takes a few seconds to fill, so it is not a big deal), the tank does "clip" into the unit as you would expect, so it seems a bit unstable

I purchased this for my son's room since it apparently good for him to have higher humidity when he has a stuffy nose. I already have an AprilAire whole house humidifier so this one is just supplemental. In that capacity it seems to work great. The water tank is large and the unit looks nice in his room (which is already painted blue).
The previous review complained about problems filling and loading the tank. I didn't really have any meaningful problem there, but the design is a bit odd. First, the tank does fill and empty from the bottom. As was pointed out, it doesn't stand on its own when you fill it. However, since it only take some seconds to fill it, that isn't a real problem in my mind. There is a check valve in the bottom of the tank that keeps it from leaking when you put it into the unit. While it first appears that this would be a source of leaks, I have not had a problem with it. In practice it seems reasonably safe. The most odd design feature is that the tank doesn't "snap" into the unit as you would expect. Instead it just sits in place. The only thing that holds it there is gravity and the way that it fits into the base at the bottom. While this does work pretty well, it strikes me as quite insecure and would magnify the problem if you happened to tip the unit. (In fact, the unit does not seem to be protected at all from tipping. If tipped, much of the water would leak out quickly, I think.) This oddity is what decreases the rating to 4 stars
In general, however, this seems like a great unit and works quite well for my purposes. Also it is a great height for my 2 year old son to stand beside it and enjoy it blowing on his face. :-)

Tower Humidifier

Strengths: Decent size tank

Weakness: Leaks and difficult to pour water into it

This unit as a base which fills up with water from the tank. If you remove the tank half way and put it back, you have the base overflowing with water. Another issue is the water tank. It does not stand by itself alone when pouring water into it which means you have to hold it inverted until the tank fills up. Poor design from Holmes. Unit does the job and it is not so noisy at low speeds. The tower is nice as it does not take much floor space. There are two filters that stick on the unit and you have the option of putting only one. For a small room, I change the water once in two days during dry winter months. Filters are reasonable in price and easily available.
