Wonderful deep movie

I didn't know what to expect when I first watched it. But as the movie rolled on, the plot really developed. All the characters were well formed, the speeches and oaths were deep and truthful. Very touching, powerful film. Great lessons in life too.

Wonderful Movie

Strengths: Superb direction cinematography and sequence

I enjoyed this movie a lot, not once but few times. Since i saw it on high definition, it really changed the way i saw it. Scences look so real and i can imagine the way its directed with 100s of people in closest proximity in a real type fight scene. An excellent movie and Orlando bloom did excellent work along with all others. Highly recommended.

A ridiculous, awful, over-acted 'epic' wannabe-film. . .

Kingdom of Heaven [DVD Boxset] [Canadian; 2-Disc...

I was a little skeptical of this film because I know it flopped commercially so maybe it was because of my low expectations, that I came out pleasantly surprised. Its a very intriguing historical premise as I have never seen another film on the crusades. Cinematically its very beautiful and the scenery and terrific costuming suck you into the era. Acting-wise, I thought the cast was particularly strong with Orlando Bloom showing he's more than just the "Legolas" teen heartthrob. Now when it comes to the story it falters. The beginning feels a little rushed and I think the death of Balian's wife should have been better dealt with. The "love story" with Sibylla, though kept short and tasteful thankfully, really felt unneeded and underdeveloped. However I was pleased with how it showed the Muslims, it was a fair and balanced view told from a step back. All in all, as with a few Ridley Scott movies, its very ambitious material that just can't quite make it- a good movie that had the makings to be a great movie.

n/a

Strengths: n/a

Weakness: n/a

This movie was such a waste of time, I didn't even finish it. I very rarely do not finish a film, but this one was a colossal piece of boredom, that was grueling to watch. Not only is Orlando Bloom a mediocre lackluster actor, but the film itself has a unrealistic and uninspiring plot, not to mention the worst battle scenes I think I have ever saw. The battle sequences were either not bloody at all, or the took a page from Kill Bill, and had blood squirting all over the place. A note to all you directors out there...stop shaking the camera! You are not adding to the "realism" and the only people who are gripping the edge of their seats would be ones whom suffer from motion sickness. The only reason I give this film another star, would be because of the dialouge, and action that happened with the King of Jerusalem, which being the only interesting character, was over with way too soon for my taste. His attire was a plus as well...the iron mask was very disconcerting, and gave him a shroud of mystery.

Kingdom of Heaven [DVD Boxset] [Canadian; 2-Disc...

I was disappointed in this film. With Ridly Scott directing and an interesting premise given world events, to work with this movie, on paper at least, had the making of greatness. Add in Orlando Bloom plus a Jeremy Irons and Liam Neeson and you'd think this would have been a summer blockbuster. Instead the story wasnt handled well ( how could a blacksmith with little Knight training move up to leader of an army so quickly?) and the action /fight scenes were average at best. A great premise handled poorly, what a shame.

Kingdom of Heaven [DVD Boxset] [Canadian; 2-Disc...

I liked it quite a bit. They do tinker with historical fact a little, but that's to be expected. Pretty tough to fit a story like this into the constraints of 150 to 180 minutes. Orlando Bloom is good, but the charecter comes off as a bit too perfect. It misses the grit of Gladiator or Braveheart. A little trivia: Ed Norton plays Jerusalem's King Baldwin, though you never see his face.

Kingdom of Heaven [DVD Boxset] [Canadian; 2-Disc...

As many of the "epic" movies that have come out lately have, at least in my eyes, totally flopped ("Alexander" anyone?), I was a little curious to see how this one would go. A young bastard blacksmith (played by Orlando Bloom, who, thankfully, takes on a less effeminate appearance with the face fuzz and has morphed from the pathetically scrawny Paris from "Troy" to a decidedly more muscular type. Good call. He still looks weird to me without his shirt on. I think it's the nipples, they just look funny to me. Anyway, where was I? Oh, yeah; "A young bastard blacksmith . . . ), feeling he no longer has a purpose, is approached out of nowhere by his father, who offers to take him to Jerusalem. After some thought (and, yeah, that’s meant to be an understatement), he decides to go to redeem himself in the holy land. Well, he finally makes it there to find a kingdom under tension; the current king is dying, the runner-up for new king is a real jerk, and the princess, of course, has the hots for him, and the fragile alliance between Christians and Muslims are threatened by a bloodthirsty few. Taking on his family line as a Baron, Balian (Bloom) seeks to ever make his surroundings a better place. Pretty good battle scenes, okay storyline, could do without the love scenes, but thankfully those were kept to a tasteful minimum. Overall, this one rates as “okay” by me. POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD: In a lot of ways, this is like "Gladiator: Part 2", only the characters are in a different time period. I know I’m going to get slammed by the Orlando fans for this, but his take on this role was not as impressive as it could have been. I felt that the beginning of the story was particularly weak, as if getting Balian to the holy land was written as an afterthought. For a guy who’s tormented by the suicide of his first wife, he didn’t show it much. Maybe they were trying to portray him as the “strong, silent type”, but being mostly emotionless doesn’t really show the audience WHY he chose to go. The ending of the story brings the lead back to where he started in the beginning, only possibly this time more at peace. Yet, as with the beginning, he shows little emotion to suggest that he IS at peace, or that he is weary of the turmoil. Even lost souls show emotion. Anyway, the siege of Jerusalem was probably the highlight of the movie. Not the best “epic” movie out there, but it’s not the worst, either.

Kingdom of Heaven [DVD Boxset] [Canadian; 2-Disc...

A good movie with a little play on history. Good cast, well written story and great effects. A fair and balanced telling of the story which appears to have gained the favor of some muslim groups. The movie shines a better light on Arabs then most movies have done. Well worth seeing on the big screen!
